Introduction
Good things come in small packages for the 21 per cent of adults suffering from a hearing impediment. Leading hearing aid manufacturer, Sonic Innovations, has launched the world’s smallest hearing aid to Australians.
The Sonic Touch is up to 50 per cent smaller than the second smallest hearing aid currently available and allows for discretion without compromising on quality.
HEARINGLife, spokesman, Simon Hammond, said that the Sonic Touch would offer an attractive alternative for Australians affected by hearing loss.
“The demographic for someone with a hearing impediment has changed substantially over the years and we are seeing a large proportion of people with hearing loss who are of working age (15-64 years),” Mr Hammond said.
“With this shift, hearing aid manufacturers have seen the need to develop hearing aids that are increasingly discreet and appeal to style-conscious and socially active Baby Boomers”
The Sonic Touch is ideal for people who struggle to hold a conversation in busy or noisy environments. It helps to diminish background noise so the wearer can focus on the conversation or sounds coming from a 30 degree radius in front of the wearer.
HEARINGLife Audiologist, Warren D’Costa said that many people suffering from hearing loss live with its effects for years before seeking help. This is usually attributed to lack of knowledge, cost and vanity.
“Hearing loss is usually progressive however due to the lack of education surrounding the topic, some people suffer from hearing loss for extended periods of time due to lack of understanding,” said Mr D’Costa
“While having a test is the best way to assess hearing, there are a number of indicators that can point to a hearing loss. These include having the radio or television turned up very loud; constantly asking people to repeat themselves or struggling to follow conversation; and having difficulty understanding children or higher pitched voices,” he said.
Features of the Sonic Touch
The Sonic Touch comes in three different technology levels, from the 'premium' Touch 24 to the Mid-level Touch 6. The key difference will be noticed in the way each hearing aid provides comfort, clarity and convenience - particularly in more difficult environments. Sonic Touch: Music to their ears
To celebrate the launch of the Sonic Touch™ hearing aid, HEARINGLife invited guests to experience the astonishing leap forward in hearing aid technology at an exclusive performance by the Australian String Quartet on Thursday 7th May 2009 at the new Melbourne Recital Centre.
Most of those who participated were new to hearing aids, but some already owned hearing aids and were thoroughly familiar with the quality of sound from their current aids. They would therefore be able to quickly discern the improvements Touch hearing aids would make.
Everybody at the event was unanimous in their praise for the Touch hearing aid. It wasn’t just the realistic, natural sound that was so impressive, but that they could follow conversations so easily, even in a difficult and noisy environments.
This shows the stories of how the Sonic Touch made a difference to a few of the people at that event and, more importantly, in their everyday lives.
